Vertal Ltd is the passion and brain child of our Managing Director, Leon Mekitarian. Leon having worked in the waste recycling industry for many years knew that most of the food waste composting processes on the market, needed garden waste to operate effectively and more over a vast plot of land for the operation. He also believed that the answer lay within the technologies operated by the water industry, so by combining tried and trusted water treatment technology with his own ideas on food waste the Vertal ATAD* was born.

The processing plant in Mitcham is the outcome of a smaller unit built a few years ago in the north of England, but with many alterations and improvements. So armed with data, experience and a vision, a backer was found and the project put into reality.
